Finding A Good General Contractor: Your Red Flag Green Light List

You have poured through websites and magazines to find the perfect log cabin. Now that you’re getting closer to a decision, it’s time to find the right general contractor. Who is going to oversee the build of your home?

eLoghomes is one of the only log home manufacturers to offer a construction service to erect your log home kit. In addition to this, it is wise to hire a general contractor who will oversee and manage the project as a whole: from making sure the land is properly graded, to building the foundation, to bringing in all of the subcontractors needed to install HVAC, electricity, plumbing, and more.

The prospect of signing on with a general contractor can be daunting, even if you have already asked around and gotten some recommendations. They obviously should be familiar with local building codes and regulations. And if they have experience building log homes, that is a major plus. But beyond this, how do you spot red flags? What should you look for that shows this person has the knowledge and integrity to get the job done with excellence?

To start, select at least two or three candidates for the job by asking around for recommendations. Then list Green Lights (positives) on the left, and Red Flags (negatives) on the right. Click below to see the list, and use it to take notes as you interview each candidate.
