Holiday Entertaining at Your Log Cabin

Small Living Room with Fireplace - Huron

Entertaining and log cabin homes go hand in hand. What better way to celebrate the holidays than with family and friends in a warm and inviting cabin?

Log homes have evolved since the days of old. Modern log cabins tend to have more square footage and often feature the same amenities you’d expect in a traditional stick-built home, like big kitchens and spa-inspired bathrooms.

If your log cabin is small or you’re planning to build a cabin with a smaller footprint, entertaining can be more challenging. Not to worry. The expert team at eLoghomes has put together some holiday entertaining tips to help you ensure your celebrations go off without a hitch!

Keep the menu simple.

We’ve all been to a party where the host is nowhere to be found because they’re busy hustling in the kitchen. Why not ditch the fancy multi-course meal and enjoy the party with your family and friends?

Appetizers and small bites are always a hit, and they’re a lot less work to prepare. Think finger foods like a fruit and charcuterie board, meatballs, spinach artichoke dip, pinwheel sandwiches, eggrolls, and rustic cabin-themed dishes like pigs in a blanket and fried chicken wings.

Place the edibles on festive platters and opt for disposable plates to make clean-up a breeze. Keep drinks and food on opposite ends of the room to prevent gridlock. Don’t forget the eggnog!

Set up a wine-tasting station.

Your guests will love a wine and cheese bar with a variety of international or local wines and an assortment of pairing cheeses. Make it even more festive with holiday-themed wine glasses and wine glass charms.

Fire up the “digital DJ.”

With so many music streaming platforms to choose from, there’s no need to spend hours making the perfect party playlist. Pick a mix you like on Spotify, Pandora, or your favorite platform, and let the “digital DJ” do the work for you.

If you don’t want commercials interrupting your party, opt for a premium version of your favorite music streaming service.

Throw a cookie decorating party.

Bake cookies in a variety of fun shapes and flavors like sugar, gingerbread, and chocolate in advance. That way you’ll be ready to start decorating when your guests arrive.

Make at least two batches of cookie icing or royal icing, and don’t forget the piping bags or squeeze bottles (great for kids). Other things you’ll need: sprinkles and candy, toothpicks (for creating swirl designs), and plenty of paper towels.

Build a hot chocolate bar.

Who doesn’t like hot chocolate? Kids and adults alike will love warming up by the fire with a toasty mug of hot cocoa. Make it special with an assortment of gourmet hot chocolate packets and warm milk. Don’t forget the marshmallows and candy cane spoons!

Get clever with sleeping accommodations.

If you plan to host overnight guests during the holidays, you need a comfortable place to put everyone. Lofts are a classic feature of log homes, and they’re a great option for hosting groups.

Another option is to design a guest bedroom with built-in bunk beds. This gives each guest their own little private sleeping nook. With careful planning, you can easily accommodate four people in a single bedroom.

Create a quiet reading nook for guests.

Everyone needs a little downtime, especially those of us who get easily overwhelmed by social activity. To enhance their stay, create a cozy reading/relaxation nook in a quiet spot where guests can recharge.

Provide magazines, coffee table books, and fun activity books in a basket. Also consider putting out a guest book for people to commemorate their visit.
